Shouldn't the 'Hotel Recommendations' sticky also cover campsites and hostels?

I don't think you are a troll. I was labelled one as I basically reiterated what you said and explained my preference.

Think Andy might have got up on the wrong side of bed!! The question he asked wasn't "what type of campsite/accommodation do you like?" Although that might be a more interesting discussion, and useful to people planning tours or expeditions.

The trouble is, it's hard to give the right answer to the original ambiguous question. "Yes, the 'hotel recommendation's' sticky shouldn't also cover campsites and hostels." or "No, the 'hotel recommendation's' sticky shouldn't also cover campsites and hostels." Either way the meaning is the same....

I put in my tpenceworth already but I would add that the idea of a string of recommendations for accommodation as a thread on this forum is likely to be too unordered to be of any use to anyone, and the time would be better spend helping to update Wikitravel. In my view the hotel sticky should be allowed to disappear down the rankings like any other.

I am though pretty self sufficient on the bike and really cannot remember many occasions where I have camped somewhere and left disgruntled (Utrecht City Camping – excepted – ADAC approved – do not ever venture there)

What was the problem with it? I stopped there, and recall it was one of the few/only places I've stopped at were I wasn't over the moon about leaving the bike/tent unattended to go into town. Gonna come over like a bigot, but it was full of travellers and the general spider sense I was getting was not good. The facilities were okay iirc.

I did not mind that it was full of travellers - ive stayed quite happily at places like that in all of Europe and I was not particulaly worried about security because I was not going anywhere that night- but the facilities were at best wrecked, most of the toilets were unusable due to being blocked - all the showers and the washrooms had significant quantaties of excrement on the floors and walls - had not been cleaned in any respect for a significant period - the guardian I think was drunk as a skunk when I had words with him when I left left in the morning - October 2009 - I wrote a letter to Utrecht council - never got a reply
