The general reporting and repeating of this case demonstrates that prejudice gets in the way of the facts, especially when the false story is so tempting.

Sheesh!

I used the article to give a general view of the decline of common sense and not to engage in the minutiae or veracity of legal arguments.

As I didn't pen the article and wasn't curious enough to exercise due diligence by fully investigating the veracity of every aspect of the article might I plea bargain for only two lashes from the whip of the moral high ground dwelling prosecution?

Having read the facts of the case I now withdraw my plea bargain. I contend that the woman was devoid of common sense. Freshly made coffee is too hot to drink - fact. Having a great deal of common sense, apart from when incendiary devices and pies are concerned, I would not attempt to drink freshly made coffee immediately nor would I cradle between my legs in circumstances that exacerbates the effects of a major spillage of the hot coffee

It's this sort of general stupidity allied to the litigiousness of the Americans that contributes to packets of nuts having to carry warnings that the packets contain nuts.

No sympathy. No apologies. She was the source of her own misfortune not the coffee or McDonalds.

Out on the club run this morning, about 15 in my group going along a wide, straight country b road in pairs and get 'SINGLE FILE!!! You're giving cyclists a bad name!' shouted at us by two guys coming the other way. WTF???!!!

They haven't read the highway code in the last 40 years or so then. You are allowed to ride two abreast if the carrigeway allows enough space for vehicles to overtake if neccessary. Rule 66 is the kiddy. Would they shout at the Sky team if they met them on the road? Maybe.

The one time I have gotten p**sed off by it was on a Skyride last year - there we all were, going along a narrow country road, the two guys in front of me were riding two abreast and there was a car behind them that couldn't get past.

I said something to them and they just looked at me as if I had two heads. IDIOTS!

This is exactly what I was thinking - Coffee is HOT, what was she expecting??
Also, the bit about it being too hot to drink?? well, DUH, that's why you leave it to cool down a bit!
