I've had the timber out in the elements for four years to get a bit of character into it. I scorched the surface and then wire brushed it to bring out the grain and then slapped some floor treatment on it to preserve it. Dowels and glue hold the legs on. I was planning to bolt it to the wall but it's turned out stable enough on its legs to stand on its own.

I have a compost heap made out of four pallets tied together with washing line. Does that count?
