Sorry all, I'm a bit mithered about dynohub choice for my 'blingy' wheelset ...,
To recap: Archetypes in polished silver.

Option 1: Son28 is my first thought with the VO Grand Cru touring-hub rear ... both polished, both large flanged, just spendy. £165 + £110 = £275 for hubbage alone.
Option 2: Shimano 3DN80 with Ultegra 10spd rear approx £70 + £70 = £140 saving £135! Very practical but no bling/desirability :-(

Or maybe there's an option 3? A middle way?
Shutter Precision PV-8 with the Grand Cru hub .... £90 + £110 = £200 still £75 saved and with full shiny bling.

What are peoples thoughts on the SP dynohubs? Do they offer any clear perfomance benifit over the Shimano?
Is saving £75 on the Son28 a false economy I'll regret?

I'm not commuting, so I'll not be racking-up hefty miles, it'll be for evening club runs and night rides/occasional Audax usage, but all year round and all weathers.

I'll also have a chat with DRC wheels who stock all the above and will likely build them.

Cheers FF

You can buy a shimano dyno + b&m luxos for the same price as a son hub, and a replacement shimano costs about the same as servicing a son. My shimano hub works well and has survived a lot of abuse including being submerged underwater on the poor student this year, so I reckon buying anything else is down to bling value - you pays yer money...
I see shimano claim 40% less drag from this

so maybe I'll have to buy one and put the 3N80 on my tourer
