The fire alarm sounded at college and everyone respected the 2 minutes silence. Once the alarm rang again to mark the end of it the whole place erupted into chatter which made the 2 minutes silence feel quite special.

the intention is to remember so as not to repeat our mistakes. "lest.we forget" is the common inscription. Celebration isn't really the wrd. And Ataturk's wise and moving words from the Gallipolli memorial, which I learned of on here, sum up what it is all about
