Single speed freewheel swap..

Hey folks,

as the title states we are planning on swapping over the freewheel off the other half's rear wheel and sticking it on a new one.. the problem is I've never done it before and wasn't sure how to do so.. I've read I need a tool for the job.. but could someone give me a little how-to guide please?

You need a tool something like this

But it depends on the free wheel and the size and number of slots

When you get the right tool, put it in place and put the wheel nut or qr skewer back on gently, just to keep it in place, then use the biggest wrench you have and with a bit of a tug, it should undo.

Or take it to the lbs. They will probably do it for less than the cost of the tool.

I usually just use a hammer and blunt chisel but there is a small risk of damaging it.

TBH, unless you have a quality high-end freewheel, it's probably almost as cheap and easier to buy a new one. Grease the threads before installing.

Would they need a tool to fit or be fairly easy to install? This could be the easy option as then we can just have all new gear at the rear and keep her rolling happy for a tad longer!

I like that idea even more! I know what's on my shopping list... Gosh it just gets bigger and bigger! list so far for me.. 3items: Totaling about £90ish, for her.. one bought.. the other two on the order list Totaling about £50! Expensive month.. and that festive day is looming!
