Singletrack magazine.

They have just published their 50th issue. Although it can be a little self-indulgent at times it's still a great mag with a heavy slant on quality photography, a bit reminiscent of the French Vertical climbing magazine. It is published independently by a bunch of mountain bikers in Todmorden here in Lancashire, no accident as it's in Calderdale, which has some of the best MTB routes in a concentrated area in Britain. I think they must have 6 or 7 people on their payroll now.

I buy a copy every other year on average. It's great eye candy but doesn't dovetail with my riding aspirations.

I buy it occasionally. Like you say, sometimes self-reverential but offers something different to the mainstream publications.

It's the only British MTB magazine I ever buy, but I don't buy it that often, mainly because I don't often see it for sale. I did supposedly get a free subscription once, but they never honoured it, the cheap bastards!

I bought it religiously for a couple of years. I liked the fact it had articles composed of *text*, that you could *read*, not just a pile of pictures with captions.

late edit: And written by people my age-ish instead of by:
1) 14-year-olds who think 'I caught my knackers jumping a fence--pictures enclosed!', or
2) Americanized corporate conquer****-the-wilderness $pend BIG ca$h on our adverti$ed bling!!!1!

I was struggling to put my feelings about the mag into words, but luckily there's someone around that's more eloquent. So I'll just endorse Kirstie's opinion.

When they were starting up, they sponsored a couple of Trailquest events in the Calder Valley and even then, their attitude quickly polarised riders opinions of them.

I'd hardly say that was eloquent, but I'm glad we agree...

It's hard to say what happened there....

I'm still registered, but hardly ever post or even visit it now.
