I don't know if it's simple.
But would try and avoid it where possible.
Why? Because you are tied into a monthly fee just to be able to update your website.
Much better off getting some webspace with a database and install a blogging platform or a CMS and then putting a template on it.
Not too technical and lots of how too's on the net for it.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Assuming you're not thinking of radically changing the "why" behind your site, if you want a text-led simple site with a few pictures, you're on the right host already - there's some customisation available which you're not using. A blog format would give your users everything they needed.

If you really want an artfully-designed picture-led site you're probably not looking at "simple". I'm reasonably technically literate and reasonably interested in good design. I did a bit of hunting around before using blogger, and realised that anything fancier would have a much steeper learning curve, would be very difficult to maintain, and also be expensive.
