Half of the year has passed already, where's it gone.

It's a good day for me as I have managed to commute in six months the same distance I completed for the whole of 2010, and still with the best cycling months to come.

Much helped by the 800km(500miles) completed this month, which coincided with the arrival of my road bike.
It seems the road bike has been a good motivator to do more than the previous month.

I have only used the car five times this year to commute, each time in order to pick up a large and/or heavy parcel unsuitable to be carried on a bike, maybe get a trailer to sort that out.
Also last year if I felt tired, ill or not great weather I would jump into the car, instead this year, in the same situation, I have just reduced the distance/speed to enable me to commute as much as possible by bike.

Hopefully summer will be warm and dry, with just a light breeze.

Good work and thanks for the reminder about the calendar - I need to do 10km on the way home to hit 3200km for first 6 months and better still 28km for 2000miles.

Looks like I'll be taking the Richmond park detour on the way home.

(haven't logged my journeys before, so have no base line - but this will be the most cycling I've done in a 6 month period, I think - thanks to the horror that is the Jubilee line)

Good going, taking detours does not count

I only go the direct way if there is lots of snow and ice on the roads, otherwise it's all detours as I only live about 2 miles from work. If I went direct it would be quicker to walk to work when I add up all the getting ready time, ride time, locking the bike up time and changing at work time but then it wouldn't be as interesting.

Checked my stats for the first six months last night after a particularly heavy slog into the Mistral the North West of England seems to have developed this summer. I'm ahead of schedule after a slow start to the year so I decided I deserved a day off and drove in this morning. Quite a pleasant change, though the 10 minute walk from the car park was a right old drag.

Only kidding !
I would love to take a longer route but..

I cannot be bothered.

My legs have had enough if i do a club run as well.

Will exceed 100 miles this week for the first time- but averaging 50 - 75 miles pw since starting commuting last September - have barely used the car at all since. I've jacked in the Gym membership & saved a whole tankerful of petrol too plus I lost two stone in weight - result! BSRU - know what you mean about the road bike - much more fun & I feel more confident & safer moving as fast as the traffic (mostly) here in sunny Swindon... even braving the notorious 'Magic Roundabout' is a breeze... keeping the Hybrid for the winter though...

I just a plain commuter so unfortunately no club runs for me, so I need to make the most of my limited time commuting.

It does make a big difference travelling at the same speed as the traffic, drivers seem less desperate to overtake.
Although this week I had a couple of overtakes in a 30mph zone even though I was cycling faster than 30mph.
