Size guide anomaly

At 6ft 1.5" and a 33" inside leg I slot in the 58-60cm frame crossover. I've heard that in such instances my 'ape index' should determine whether I go bigger or smaller, however my wingspan is the same length as my height, pretty much to the millimeter.

As I'm new to road biking neither size feels more or less comfortable so I'm drawing upon the knowledge of you guys. I guess another dilemma is that I feel like I might be in more control with a slightly smaller bike, but at the same time one of the bikes I'm keen on is the Triban 5/500 but they only size in 60 (57 would be too small).

Any advice? Would going for a smaller size be wiser, or is it really not that much of a deal at all?

It's a massive deal as people size by height all the time,some get it right others get it very wrong.

Cheers, can I ask why you chose a smaller bike? Do you feel it gives you more control than the bigger sizes?

37inch inside leg and short torso really. I've ridden an almost identical frame in 56cm too, the 54 which is pretty much box standard with the exception of seatpost is just a dream to ride.

All depends on how low you want your bars, if you are happy with the bum in the air hands down by your knees position then get a smaller frame.
Handling of different size frames (from the same range) should not come into it as the heaviest part is you and the seat position relative to the crank/ground/centre of gravity will be the same, or should be.
Test ride anything you like the look of after all it will be your bike.

Thanks for the responses, Bowie aside. Given the Triban's short frame geometry is it possible that their 60 may ride like a slightly smaller bike? I'm tempted to pull the trigger on the Triban 500 but don't live near a decathlon so can't test ride.

I also don't like riding with my hands too far below my backside so maybe the 60 would make more sense than the 57?
