After finding the Dales cycle bus only works around Nidderdale. The train was an idea given by Colinj. So today down to the train station and enquired.Brilliant all day return.Either £8-50 or £9-10.
So it might go up next summer but who cares.Ride on ,Leeds Skipton train.Cycle Skipton through to Buckden then beyond to Langstrothdale and back to Skipton around 55 miles ish.Train back to Leeds.
One warm Saturday next summer
I will be celebrating cycling 25 years. And Langstrothdale is my favourite place along with Scarborough.

Let me know if you arrange a date and I might join you - if you manage to fit in some cycling inbetween the cafe stops.

Whoa another Meanwooder,is bit becoming the centre of cycling in Leeds.I certainly will keep you informed.I am interested in you name.Anything to do with our own Langbar on the way to Bolton Abbey. If so you may have seen the Postmans shelter erected by local residents so said Postie could take a few mins rest.

Sounds good, I'll hop on at Shipley then.

I use the Skipton train regularly in summer, a fast, frequent and cheap service to the Dales.

I couldn't live much nearer to you if I tried Postie. When I first started training for the White Rose Classic a few years back, nigh on all of my training rides would always end up going up Langbar (mostly at walking pace) from the far side. I do seem to have become a bit of a hill junkie, although I'm not really getting any better at them.

Is the shelter for the postman just on the corner on the Beamsley side?

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I'm glad you liked the idea!

There are lots of other fabulous ride possibilities if you carry on up the Settle-Carlisle line.

If you want to feel depressed, read on ...

I took a forum ride up Langbar a couple of years ago and longers had joined us on his fixed. He'd only intended to do part of the ride but ended up staying with us all day.

So, eventually we got to the Langbar climb and I was riding behind him. I was grovelling in my 30/28 bottom gear and he was working his way up the hill ahead of me. Suddenly, he did a trackstand on a very steep part of the hill and took a good look at the surrounding scenery before carrying on up the hill ... I am not worthy!

How much does it cost to Oldham?

The lad's an animal when it comes to hills. If I do happen to be alongside him on an incline then it's usually when i'm chewing my handlebars nearly spewing and he's happy chatting as though he's making a cup of tea :becool:
