Sky ride 'level' of ride help

I could just do with a bit of help as to what the levels of the sky rides go upto?

I ask cos I went for one today (which I couldnt help but admire the time put in by those who run them) but it was very slow paced - it said 9mph - but I wasnt sure if that would be an average, but it was so slow for me personally that I gave my apologies and set of by myself - though I guess it was a great pace for some of the guys and gals.

I seem to bat along on the straights at 16mph+ fairly comfortably and managed 41 miles today - (41 fooking miles - I have amazed myself) - and there's a ride which says 'ride strong' at 12 - 13mph - does this mean they stay at that speed or do they start to talk 'averages' more as the rides get stronger? Thnx

The skyride strong i was on the rolling average for the whole ride (was about 45 miles or so) was about 13mph so if you can average 16 mph for 41 miles then you will have no problem keeping up.

It seems to vary on location, leader and the group, although the average speed should not go much above that stated in the description and its up to the leaders to ensure that it is done at the pace of the slowest rider, without making them feel as though they are holding everyone up (easier said than done).

However depending on who turns up the speed can be slower, I was assistant leader on a Ride Strong where we did 10.8 mph average and it was pan flat.

The purpose of the Ride Well / Strong is to get people up to a level where they feel confident enough to join a local club, or enable people to form groups with people they meet on the rides.

You would have no problem on the Fylde Coast Ride Strong, although they are all booked up now as there are so few its worth putting your name down as folks pull out at the last minute.
