im a little tea pot
Last night, about 10 pm, i had an unfortunate coming together in my car with a full grown Canadian Goose!rounding a corner confronted with a stationary car on the other side of the road with his full beams on, saw it at the last minute and couldn't do anything to avoid it!

would i need to report the collision to anyone? i did stop, when safe, as it was a blindish corner on a national speed limit and it was right in the middle of the road, and walk back but it had disappeared!! possibly the other car moved/removed it?

my car is sporting a lovely crack and a busted grill (fnaar make of that what you will!! lol) but not too bad

Relax. There's no need to report it.

If I hit livestock, I would probably have tried to find the farm where it came from and mention it to them. It is their responsibility to keep things under control.

The owner would be liable for any damages although I wouldn't try to claim unless the damage was severe.

Shame it got away. Would've made an excellent Sunday lunch. (Tho' I believe plucking fowl isn't a barrel of laughs.)

that's ok then. i am partial to a bit of goose on special occasions, slow roasting it is great!

i think i read somewhere they are classed as vermin so can be shot on private land??

No-one owns or farms Canada Geese. They are wild birds.

Sorry, hadn't noticed that, thought we were talking about a domestic goose.

Note to self, read posts properly before wading in:blush:

Mind had the stationary car in the middle of the road put it's hazard warning lights on rather than it's full beam you'd have had a bit more warning, but I suppose they were trying to move the goose out of the way... I once came across a stationary car like that in the oncoming lane, but they'd put their hazard warning lights on so I'd already slowed, and managed to stop before hitting a sheep that the other car had stopped to avoid.

I was on York campus once (which has a very large lake, and many waterfowl), and heard a rather pompous sounding undergrad explaining to a girlfriend while pointing at a bird "And that's a Canandian Goose".

I thought two things.

1. It's Canada goose, not Canadian, and
2. That's a Greylag.
