The wildfire is not waterproof but ..... I had one and submerged it water more than once, it has bounced off my handlebars and separated into 3 pieces on several (6? maybe more?) occasions (I've since got a better bicycle mount) and it kept working. To be fair, it got a little wonky towards the end, but it was still usable. Replace it with an Xperia Active, which is supposed to be water proof, if you seal all ports - haven't tested that yet

The etrex 10 is a substantially cut down version of the 20 and 30. Amazon are selling the OLD etrex Vista HCx for £89.99 now which is a reasonable price for the unit.

I meant to post back on this, from what I have read I'd agree. I've been looking at the Etrex 20 / Dakota 10 but I will check out the Vista HCx as well:thumbsup:

Should've mentioned I've no experience of the unit. Just saw it mentioned on here a few times and seen the Go Outdoors flyer just in case it was a bargain for someone

The etrex 20/30 look very nice and a nice upgrade on the old HCx models (high sensitivity receiver, c = colour i.e. 256 and x = microsd slot). I'm not sure they are worth the money either though. I got a dakota 20 as the price was a lot better. The 10 is not really like the 20 and 30 it is monochrome and more like the lower level etrexes of old but updated (these can be got for fifty of sixty quid). In contrast the dakota 10 is very similar to the 20 (there is no 30), but has no SD card (but an adequate 850mb for OSM), not barometric altimeter and no electronic compass. Despite this the 10 is probably a pretty good buy for some of the prices it has gone for occasionally the last few months.

The etrex vista hcx and dakota 20 side by side are quite interesting. 256 colours worked very well for what it was with the old etrex but the slightly bigger screen and more colours on the dakota does make a big difference. The maps look much more natural. The extra configurability of the computer functions is also very nice.

I think this is one one of those times where I'll have (want to really) pay for a premium product. I'm not saying the '10's or the older ones are bad but the D20 just keeps impressing me on reviews.
