Some car drivers are so brave when they think they can get away quickly, such as this morning.

A lovely incident free twelve and half mile ride in this morning, until the last mile. First driver decides on a nice close pass on the exit of a RAB, then the next driver decides on a nice close pass on the approach to the next RAB. Both speed off thinking about how much fun they've had teaching an upstart non-road tax paying cyclist who owns the road.

At the next RAB they both turn right into slow traffic, come along side the second driver, he's staring straight ahead doing his best to ignore me, come up to the first driver, he deliberate moves his rust bucket to the right to prevent my ability to come along side.

I've had someone run a red light to get away from me after a crap pass before. So stupid.

That staring straight ahead thing always reminds me of toddlers who cover their eyes and think you can't see them.

That sums up the mentality of the driver.

I didn't think I looked that scary, maybe me not shaving for a couple of days is too much for some car drivers.

Yes, I suspect that might be what happened in this one.

Though that might simply be a complete lack of interest in other people's safety (Or other people. Full stop...) and the basic principles of riding on a public road. Maybe he was in a rush because of a hold up because of an accident caused by someone else in too much of a rush...

Because, the way I see it, the only time cyclists really hold traffic up is when vehicles knock cyclists down.

The stiff necked - look straight ahead - I can't see you - is indicative of guilt, always. It's the same reflex pedestrians use when they know there's danger but 'put their head down' and cross the road regardless. Sometimes it's nice to shatter their little bubble of stupidity.

No one ever wants to stop and chat to me. I don't know why. I don't swear at them, I'm quite reasonable I think but no, the window stays wound up (or suddenly goes up as I get alongside) and the straight ahead stare starts. The last one was a BMW driver who beeped me, iZap, and Ianrauk on our way through North London. I chased it down through North London and when I finally caught up they wound the windows up and zipped off down a side street. It's just not fair!!!

I did once try the nearside door of a vehicle (Touran)which had just tried to squeeze me to the kerb. The guy wasn't trying to ignore me, but was loving that he was safe in the far side of his cage. Gesticulating arms wide "plenty of room"

It occurred as I was entering some road works prior to red lights at a crossroads. It was the end of a downhill, 30mph section of dual carriageway. I was doing 30+ and in primary approaching the works which reduced the lanes from 2 to 1. This manoeuvre was carried out ignoring the airzound.

There was a short discussion where I explained how he hadn't left me loads of space and anyway that's what you do when you overtake someone - something he hadn't actually done. It was obviously a conversation going nowhere.

He wasn't too impressed as when the lights changed I clipped in and rode off, leaving his nearside door open. He came by shouting and blasting his horn.... but he did leave a good 6 foot of space.
