Yesterday was bike clean day for my commute bike.
Rear brake cable - sticking.. need new one... luckily had spare
Rear tyre - frayed on edge, tyre out of shape, due to off no doubt - need new one - use spare old tyre
Check chain... great - near 100% worn - need new one

Washed Sealskinz socks. Forgot they were in the wash and threw them in the tumble dryer.
they came out looking like when you melt crisp packets.

It rained heavy on my commute today.. Sealkinz failed :-( they worked great before
I got a puncture on the front tyre..:-(.. anything else you want to throw at me commuting gods?

Shimano winter shoes for me, my normal socks were completely dry despite a river falling from the sky this morning.

P*ssed it down all the way in... got in today to cries of "you must be crazy cycling in today!" to which I replied that I wouldn't let a little bit of drizzle stop me! Quite enjoyed the ride in today actually - it's never as bad as you think when you look out of the curtains when you wake up.

Got all my kit drying out and am looking forward to getting into nice toasty warm clothing prior to the return leg

It really heaved it down today. I don't mind cycling in the rain as long as it's not cold and thank gawd today wasn't.

+1. I still enjoyed my ride in even in the rain. I've found that once you get outside it's never as bad as the conservatory roof would have you believe.

Can't help feel sorry for all those poor, steaming souls crammed together on the SouthEastern trains route into London.....

Well the good thing with a newly cleaned bike is that when I changed the puncture there was less filth to cover me with..

good, I thought it was me

after a long day I got started on a desperately overdue fettle

cleaned a thoroughly filthy bike, new back tyre to replace one through the rubber in several places

tighten bolt into stay securing back mudguard

new blocks to back, replacing those down to metal (and not used for two weeks as a result)

refit front brakes that some idiot fitted the wrong way round months ago and have so been a bit crap since then, not good allied to no back brake

fiddle, now in the dark and rain with torch in teeth, with the back mech which has has good as seized as regards changing, it seems to free up but that's that as it's dark and raining etc etc

inflate rear tyre, some bloody idiot had managed to snake bite the tube, arghh, new tyres very stiff, fingers tired and hooge burst blister on important point of right thumb (I'd fitted two of the same tyres to the wife's new ride late the night before, so two patches, replace, reinflate and that's it, see what happens in the morning

search for and eventually find charger for posh exposure light that only needs charging every two months when run on pulse

raining but all good, brakes are suddenly pukkah front and rear, rear mech still very lazy, several kicks from heel at lights makes it a bit better and the old school of sudden pressure on the pedals/hit a small pothole to make it shift

will have to give a quick wipe and oil tomorrow early doors I suppose, the bike was that dirty I'm surprised it was still going

So how do you do that. I've got some, but find they keep letting in water around the top when it's chucking down. The combination of the water from the sky, the spray from the road and a combination of the two running down my tights!

Yesterday was the big fettle day.
Washed the bike in the morning then let it dry out while i went to visit my mother , find that a yellow frame really does not like the black stuff you get this time of year and needed to use muc off with a cloth to get it off.

In the afternoon i changed the front tyre as it had serious cuts in it from the glassy bits of the cycle path part of my route.

Lubed chain and other bits.

Recharged lights.

checked trueness of wheels and if they were running smoothly along with brake wear etc etc.

Added some more reflective stick on stuff to the frame.

Not leaving for work till 7 pm as i am on night shift.

As for keeping feet dry i use some overshoes and if its really bad i bung some food bags over my socks as well, along with rainlegs and gaurds i find my feet do not get wet.
