On the morning commute, its about 3 degrees, damp road and fairly greasy. Taking a left hand turn at about 20mph hugging the inside and WHOA, two wheel slide.
Now this is the first time I have lost control on a road bike and I s**t myself, I did manage to hold it though and ended up having a little chuckle to myself. The van driver coming the other way who I would of ended up in front of looked failry shocked! I still don't believe in Friday the 13th though ;)

Well done for holding it.
I usually go down even with just a rear wheel slide.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Well done !

All you can do is try to control it, if its a front wheel that goes i just go down like a sack of spuds, wait till it gets to - 13 like last winter as that was fun on 23 mm tyres

Not as close a shave as yours, but I was coming home from work just after midnight, with temperature hovering around freezing. I turned left at a traffic light junction at a reasonable pace and while leaning over, the back wheel hit one of those lovely smooth metal squares that they put on the road surface to mark the pedestrian crossing confines.

I usually avoid them like the plague, but misjudged this one; and in less time than my ar$e had to twitch, the back wheel slid out and fortunately dug straight back in on the tarmac.

Hadn't even considered that the date had changed to the 13th !!, but will consider this one a lucky episode.

i learnt how to cycle on icey roads when i was a young lad, where i live you have no choice as he winters used to be pretty tough. corners i take steadily and touch wood in many years i've managed to stay upright. the other day i was out and met a fellow cyclist who turned down a side streeet and he was leant right over and giving me a wave in the process, to be honest my heart was in my mouth as i thought he was going to come a cropper. to the op well done on holding and its all a great learning curve

I've never been able to stay upright once even one wheel starts to go. And gravel rash *really* hurts.
