I'm a northerner, a fixed roadie. It's early Sunday morning and the sun's not shining and it's windy. It's about 10C, with wind chill feels like 6C. I dress appropriately ie longs, top, arm warmers and gillet, and then every MBer i see is in baggy shorts and tee shirt giving it max [sometimes even getting up to 8 or 9mph] with their skin a delicate shade of blue.
Please, I want to know, is this a fashion thingy a bit like dreadlocks on snowboarders or am I just not 'ard enough?

Dude in the six months i spent living in a ski resort (living in a chalet with 35 british snowboarders) i met just 1 snowboarder with dreadlocks. Loads have long hair, i didnt cut mine once throught the time there, but no dreadlocks.... maybe thats surfing?

I see this kind of thing all the time (I'm sounding like an old man now!)

People nowadays just don't seem to take any account of the weather! You seem guys in "designer" jeans and t-shirts out on a Saturday night in Winter, hairstyles like peacocks or cockatoos (or some such bird), obviously absolutely freezing, trying not to show how cold they are.

WTF is that all about?? Put on a bloody coat and get a haircut!

Didn't one of the Greek philosophers complain that the youth of the time had long hair and were rude to their elders? No doubt had they lived in more temperate climes he would have complained about their lack of apparel in inclement weather.

I am fully expecting to be critical of how my girls get ready for nights out.

Got it! always wondered why you never see old m'bers unlike old roadmen, they have all either died of exposure or have arthritis and can't turn a pedal anymore.

I reckon it is a Northern (England only - we are more sensible up in the proper north!) thing. When I worked in Hull, on a night, everyone used to go out with no jacket or coat - even in the middle of winter! Unbelievable!

I went up to Newcastle a few times when it was cold and most of the women were wearing miniskirts and half the men were topless!
