So you're doing a 3 night tour...

what do you pack?

I'm a notorious overpacker and need to keep things minimal for a 3 day tour (first night = on ferry) to Holland at the end of the month. What would you pack in your seatpack, 22 litre backpack and small bar bag?

The thing I'm worried about most = shoes - do I bite the bullet and walk to the pub in my spds? Shoes take up too much room.

Tools and tubes are a given of course.

Basic tools, puncture repair stuff, pump. Change of clothes. Personal hygiene stuff. Waterproof. Change of underwear and socks. Camera. Phone. Charger for phone.

Anything else is a bonus.

AARGH....dump the backpack. If you need an extra 22 litres capacity, do yourself a favour and pack the stuff in panniers. Way more comfortable. BTW, I'm off to the Hoek again next week. All the stuff goes in panniers. For a three day "credit card" trip, my loaded panniers always seem to come in at about 8kg. About 3kg are the panniers themselves and a bike lock that is faintly OK.
I only take one pair of shoes.

Have fun.

I'm going as well, and I can confirm neither of us have panniers or intend to get panniers (we're going on proper racey bikes, and all). We know this isn't ideal, but we've got to work around it unfortunately.

I may have spent my commute in this morning checking out panniers and racks........ Not sure I could chuck one on the back of the felt though. Mind you, if this back pain continues, I may have to. Also - cost.

My next bike will be touring-appropriate. I just haven't bought (or specced, or thought about) it yet. So this little jaunt will I'm sure be a learning experience.

Get a rack from Halfords (bike hut £25). And get pannier set from Lidl for £18... If they have any left??? Argos do a good pannier set thats about £20.... You get back ache with a back-pack. Take some lightweight pumps for the evening. You won't need to take loads for such a short tour... Have fun
