Was quite happily browsing ebay for a new workhorse, as mine needs too much spent on it now (BB, cassette, new shifters, brakes, tyres etc). Was quite enjoying the prospect of a new chariot when.............the bloody motor goes in the washing machine and I`ve got to buy one of those instead (machine not just a motor I hast`n to add!!).

Not impressed:angry:;)!!!

Still, another glass of red and I might forget about it:smile::laugh:, till tomorrow!!

Loads on freecycle.

Washing machines, that is, not free cycles. Ironically.

That would have been an interesting ride:wacko:;)

I did cycle to work with the motor in my backpack this morning, in the vain hope that I could repair it, if that comes anywhere near?!!!! (it didn`t work anyway, I still have spectacular fork lightning displays every time I use it:wacko::laugh:!!)

I was pondering some new bike bling earlier this month...then reversed into a skip  (which had jumped out from behind a tree having seconds before been blinded by a bolt of lightning) ;)

Can recommend Hoover washing machines. Had/known a few and they always last a long time. Ours is ten-years old, gets hammered every day and nothing has ever gone wrong with it.

What's wrong with the motor? In all likelihood the brushes have worn out; it's a 10 minute job and a few quid to replace them. Failing that your local repair shop will sell you a reconditioned motor for half the price of a new one. They are really very simple machines to work on; just a collection of bits bolted into a steel case.

My Hoover gave me 17 years of service, it got through several sets of brushes and two motors and I would have revived it again had I not spotted some cables, which had almost fretted through so I decided, with regret, to scrap it.

About three years ago, my washing machine motor packed up/burnt out. Perhaps not surprising on a machine that was more than twenty years old at the time. A Domestic Appliance Repair person ordered a new motor, from the internet, and put the new one in for the princely sum of about £60. I particularly remember this because I thought it would be the same as a new machine, and was surprised that it was not the case.
