Soft car roof top boxes ?

I am looking at a roof box of some sort for holidays, its the only time i need one as mrs ck is a take it all including the kitchen sink kinda packer .
It would only be for stuff like beach chirs, windbreak, maybe towels etc
So has anyone any experience of soft roof boxes that pack away ? i know security isnt as great as a hard box although its pack able for the other 50 + weeks a year i will not need it .

I've got a Thule ranger 90 and it's been a good servant for a few summers now. I broke one of the zips but it's not a design fault. I was just trying to pack too much in and pulled a bit hard. Very tough and keeps stuff dry in heavy rain.

Got a summit large bag off gumtree , looks mint for £10, no manuals and google isnt any help but im sure i can work it out.

You know, at first I thought you were looking for a roof box for a soft-top car, and I was wondering how that would work! Took me a couple of attempts at reading through to clock what you were actually after!

I use the Thule "Rapid" system and their Ranger box

Brilliant

Four pins slide into a track on the roof rack, tighten a knurled knob and fitted

Hardly small when folded, but easily stowed under a bed or similar

The video shows the non-rapid brackets

I didn't know mine was a non rapid version. I feel inadequate now...

I have one I paid £15 for from one of those discount warehouse places (JTF) making it about 8% the price of the Thule offering. It attaches to the roof reasonably quickly (it's a slight faff, but on the other hand I only do it twice a year) and securely, and holds lots of stuff. It is generally waterproof, but I used it in torrential rain travelling at 50-70mph for over 2 hours once, and it let water in - but then anything going outside the car might get wet. Bin bags are cheap and waterproof though

It rolls into a very small bag and does everything I want.
