Oh and you say it's a single speed, can I put gears on it instead? Sorry, I just ride the bikes, my technical expertise is a bit limited but I want to learn by making up a winter bike or two....

It's not designed for gears , theirs no cable routing and track ends are not conducive to fit a derailleur

I am indeed and that's probably why it's a pending project. I have half bikes aplenty at the moment.
