Some people are too stupid to have a computer

I got into work this morning to find that one of my email addresses had been sent a load of emails from Amazon.com. I thought the usual some sort of phishing email, but having looked into it I quickly realised that someone had set up an Amazon account using my email address.

I reset the password and now have full access to their account including credit card details! I searched the internet to find an email address for them and found an open Facebook account plus a load of other details. If I was that way inclined I could do a lot of stuff, but I'm not.

I have emailed her on another email address I have found for her, told her I will reset the account back to her and told her to be more careful in the future.

She should take her computer, pack it back up in the box it came in, take it back to the shop where she bought it from asking for a refund telling them that she is too stupid to own one!

It is amazing how lax some of people can be. I bought a 2nd hand PS3 once from Game and it still had a load of personal details on it. I ended up with name, address, DOB and various other details from a quick Google search. I emailed her my findings and reset her PSN account as punishment. Didn't hear anything back. Maybe she was too embarrassed and/or didn't much care.

Years ago when I was at college, back in the mists of time when Windows 3.1 seemed impressive, I saved some work to a floppy disk at the end of a class and then walked out and forgot to take the disk out of the PC.

Realising this about ten minutes later, I went back to the lab but there was another class now in progress so I went away and came back when the class would be over, hoping my disk would be still there.

What I found was two of the college's IT techs standing with blank, confused faces looking at the machine I had been using which now had a black DOS screen displaying "Invalid system disk, replace and press F1 to continue" all the way down the screen while one of the IT techs kept pressing F1 and getting the same result.

I walked up, ejected my floppy disk, pressed F1 and smiled at the IT techs as "Now starting Windows" appeared on the screen. I have never had a huge amount of faith in IT techs ever since for some reason.

Every time Mrs F says "I've been trying to print something, and I ran into a problem" I groan inwardly. Last night, it took me 45 mins to get the thing working again. I have no idea what she does to it. It works perfectly for me.

I am a developer and I can do the hardware bit too, as I keep reminding our hardware guys, got to keep the superiority up!
