Was there something in the water today? I had three very close passes, not aggressive; the drivers were just completely unaware of their surroundings and/or careless. I managed to bang the side of the cars in two cases and the drivers looked surprised to see a fuming cyclist next to their car... I hope tomorrow will be better!

IMO the ones 'unaware' of their surroundings are more of a danger than someone passing close to 'teach you a lesson about road tax'

Those are the ones that will hit somone, and state, 'They just appeared out of nowhere'

If they recognise you it won't.

Yup, cut up by a taxi driver swerving to pick up a fare just off Oxford St. Swung in from my right and clattered my front wheel with the corner of his rear bumper, luckily stuck a leg out in time to stay upright. Obviously had no idea I was there, as shown by his surprised expression as I yelled "Watch it!!" while passing his window.

I had the same issue yesterday. I was driving in the bus lane at 4:30pm so the lane pretty much to myself. It's along the Commercial Road where there are a few parking bays along that lane and people are always opening their doors on me so I stay far enough away to react when they do it. A car drives by me so close (in the bus lane) that I actually feel that air gust on my leg. I pull up to him and tell him through the window he shouldn't be in the bus lane and did he realise how close to me he was? His reply was just that he got so close because I was in his way and pointed out I should be cycling as close to the left as I can get!!!! Obviously a few exchanges (non-aggressive) but how can you talk to someone who has no ounce of logic in them?
