I have been on Ebay. Total expenditure so far about £17. A £5 PT100 temperature sensor, a £5 solid state relay, and a £7 1500 watt immersion heater that looks absolutely deadly but should make the system pretty fast-response.
This is fun.
Stop it. I might have to use my Raspberry Pi in anger. I've been looking at control interfaces and Python as the programming language to manage the input from the heat sensors and I've got servo motors to twiddle knobs... It would be a goer if the work surface real estate wasn't controlled by my wife.
