Anyone got a recommended route for this? I did it a couple of summers ago but found the main roads through the forest were a bit busy. If anyone knows of some quieter lanes I'd love to hear them.

Southampton, Ashurst, Lynhurst, Lymington and use all the small coast roads to Bournemouth
or Southampton to Cowes ferry, Cowes to Yarmouth, Yarmouth ferry to Lymington and then as above coast roads

There are numerous different ways to go & it depends how long you want to make it. One way would be through Colbury towards Beaulieu then on to Brockenhurst then to Burley, Burley to Bransgore then to Christchurch & along the coast roads to Bournemouth. Job done ^_^

Thanks. I think last time I did it, it was on the A35, which got a bit hairy on a couple of occasions so if there are quieter roads that link up, suitable for a roady, that get you from Totton area to Bournemouth, either via Hythe/Beaulieu or Lymington I don't mind.

Any areas to avoid as particularhorror spots?

I'd avoid the main road into Lymington personally but on the route I quoted there are no problem roads.

A slightly more direct route would be Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Sway, Highcliffe, Christchurch, Bournemouth.

Personally that would be the route I'd take.

How does this rough map look? Too conservative with the way it goes to Beaulieu, or is that as expected?

Looks pretty good to me, quietish roads & should be quite flat too. The route to Beaulieu is the route that I do often.

I'd use this to get from Totton to Lymington
http://connect.garmin.com/course/7156556#
Where I've started it is just next to where there is an exit from the cycle path on the A35.
