Does anyone know if you get caught by speed cameras in spain do you get points on your licence as well as a fine? Also if you have been caught more than once over a ten day period do they do you for each individual breach?

From the Spanish Tourist Office:

Do not do what many people suggest and ignore it.

There is a legal convention in place (and there has been since 1964) allowing European countries to seek enforcement of fines for driving offences in the home country. There was a further convention in 2011, allowing cross-border sharing of information on road safety related traffic offences, which includes speeding.

I'd have to doublecheck whether the 2011 convention has come into force in the UK yet - but even if it hasn't, it can be applied retroactively!

EDIT: Just checked. Part 6 of the Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008 implemented COPEN 24, in relation to the enforcement of fines for speeding.

Thanks Reg

Probably at least seven times, minimum.
How do they notify you about the alleged speeding if they didn't stop you and issue a ticket at the time? + presumably they have to send out photos showing who was driving and how can you know their cameras are accurate?

I like the Spanish police, they are corrupt but are not too bothered, they give badguys kickings and when I watched the world cup final 2010 in Spain they sounded their sirens and waved flags out of the car windows, you wouldnt get that in the UK. A women nextdoor to me in Spain where I lived was getting beaten by her husband often, the police turned up once and tried to get him out onto the street (police cannot enter your property without warrant and need to be invited) the women wouldnt invite them, we all where begging her too, they had their battons ready to give him the biggest beating ever. A non-PC police force for a non-pc crime rate.

Yes, I was in Seville asking the Gurdia Civil for directions (sans helmet  ), across the street was a young man kicking a waste bin to the entertainment of his fellow group of reprobates. The cops courteously excused themselves, walked across the street, batoned the dope on every limb, bust his head open & threw him in the back of their van, then continued to give me directions. ^_^

OP, was it a hire car? Was it a radar? Just asking as there are usually h.u.g.e warning signs.......................
