Hi Richard,

If you are referring to the water works activity that was done last year - yes, this is all finished now. I rode the Greenway last around October time and it was fine. There was probably a bit of tidying up work to be done down the sides, but the full route was open. If you follow this link, it will bring up a full map of the Spen Valley Greenway so you can check for yourself exactly where it runs to and from in terms of access.

What's also quite nice is going down the Spen Valley Greenway and then jumping over to the Calder Valley and Birkby Bradley Greenways. Makes the route a bit longer and a bit more interesting if you fancy something a bit further? You have to ride on a main road into Mirfield to make the jump, but its not too bad.

Can anyone help me? We are taking the two young grandchildren for a ride on the Spen Greenway in a couple of weeks time but we need to meet up and park up safely and legally in Ravensthorpe right next to the cycleway route. Any ideas?

Or you could always bring them along to the Kids Saturday Bike Club at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, Odsal, Bradford. Details on: http://eastbradfordcyclingclub.blogspot.com/

I wouldn't recommend Ravensthorpe as a place to park I'm afraid, there are no public car parks that I'm aware of.

I would try further up the Greenway, say at Heckmondwike or alternatively park in Dewsbury Town Centre, say at South Street or the Station Car park and cycle along the Calder Greenway to where it meets the Spen Valley at Ravenswharfe.

There have been reports of a number of incidents in the Dewsbury Moor/Heckmondwike area of the Greenway where cyclists have been mugged by youths on motorbikes. Perphaps not the best place to go on your own.
