Well is it ? or does it have a use in humanity.
Spinning is awesome - fact!
I don't go anymore because I couldn't afford my expensive gym membership. I have looked into re-joining a local gym, having since moved house. Still very pricey (same chain) but I may have decided to join, at the end of the summer. Trouble is the spinning class timetable isn't that great at this venue, so I would only be able to attend perhaps twice a week. I would recommend spinning to anybody - awesome way to burn shed loads of calories and imho it's beneficial to cycling but doubtless others will disagree. It is not a substitute for doing mucho miles on the road but as an additional activity, it's great!
Spin Classes ....The Devils excercise?????
+1 I loved spinning classes when I could afford gym membershipI love spinning, it's the only thing I miss since I cancelled my gym membership earlier this year.
As others have said, depends on the teacher - I think spinning is great when the weather if foul or you dont have the time to go for a decent ride - but there is one teacher at my gym I avoid.Mrs Gti once persuaded me to go along to her spin class so I took my heart-rate monitor and decided to try to make the best of it as a training session. My worst fears were confirmed when the instructor turned out to be a shouty woman who put on some loud music and berated us through a microphone attached to her head; very distracting when I was trying to follow my usual routine of warming up then putting in some sprints to max HR. Eventually she started coming round the semicircle of riders, staring them closely in the eyes and shouting right in their faces... when she got to me and saw my expression she did a sort of "Hmmmm... best not...." and carried straight on to the next person. Horrible it was, absolutely horrible. I'd rather be slogging up a 20% slope in the Bowland fells with sleet blowing down my neck and another 25 miles to go before a hot bath than do that again.
I can't afford the local gyms either but have discovered that we have a local authority leisure centre for a huge £20 a month. For that I am a member of the 3 nearby council gyms (Wymondham, Long Stratton & Diss). They all have spin classes, one has climbing, they all have exercise bikes. Would it be worth asking your council if they have gyms/leisure centres locally as they might well be worth a look. I am just blown away by ours. Its got much better facilities than the Banantynes & Virgin Centres and less than half the monthly price.
