On Saturday I had my spokes tightened because the rear wheel was slightly buckled, when I got back from a 60 mile club run I noticed a crack on the rim where the spoke joins and at closer inspection I found 6 more.
On the ride I didn't hit any major pot holes, so is it just a case that my LBS over tightened them, if so what should I say to them or do.

Thanks.

What rim is this?

From your description it sounds like it was an older wheel that may have already been abused (buckled) before the LBS got their hands on it. If this is the case then I guess it's just one of those things to put down to experience. I have suffered similar fate to a rim that started cracking around the spoke nipples after only 1800 miles and this was a wheel that had never needed any attention and was perfectly true and firm up until the failure.
Some Alex rims do appear to be made of something slightly less strong than mild cheddar!

Maybe discuss the issue with the wheel supplier (did it come with a bike?). IMO a wheel should last a lot longer than that, until the rim braking surface wears out. It could be that the rim was starting to fail before the LBS trued it, that's how I found out my rim was failing, it went out of true as the spokes started to pull out of the rim.

When truing a wheel you usually tighten AND loosen opposing spokes in the immediate area of the buckle so as to bring the rim into true.

The overall effect on spoke tension is neutral or slightly higher.

You have therefore either had a complete numpty truing your wheel or the Bontrager rim has failed.

My money would be on the latter - maybe the original spokes were overtightened or it's a one-off production problem.

Either way it may be worth approaching the original retailer.

Fast and careful!
I had the same with my rear mavic ksyrium elite, broke a spoke on a run out,out of true straight away got a lift home took the oppertunity to get a full service,£200 spoke done wheel trued and bike back had a few spins out 280 miles in the week noticed the tyre was worn and the wheel out again took it back and yes the rim was split, mavic did rebuild the wheel foc, but i do think it was a cock up by my lbs,how they never noticed the tyre was shot and the mess up with the truing ,could have cost me,i was more upset that the shop never tells you what to look out for when giving a bike back
