In doing this I have realised that I am their target audience, or at least look much like it.

That must be quite a depressing thought. My commiserations. To be honest, I don't think you've quite got the non-cynical, throw silly amounts of money at people with daft branding attitude that they're looking for.

mmmm. Perhaps we need an 'Enter and Shop' page.

There's a write-up of last year's event at http://www.lfgss.com/thread92179.html
The second feed stop had real potential - an 'Italian Deli' and coffee shop. Thoughts of freshly ground espresso and Mortadella ham kept us spinning into the night. Instead we got 'sausage' roll (soggy, with a filling that tasted like the sausage had been pre-chewed - mother bird style) and tea so hot that dragons wouldn't touch it.

Perhaps the extra £24 entry fee this year is going into the food.
It was £45 last year (there was a Groupon offer for a while, that was £21).

Though I fear we would be charged similar rates if we had to pay DZ the commercial rate for all his efforts put into the project.

Nevertheless we would still get more back on the investment. It's so easy to overlook some of DZ's real time decision making that moved last Friday's ride from being a potential disaster to a heroic procession to the Rose. And it is a ride, a group of people travelling together or close together, not a series of badly designed arrows and losing control on the detail - whether food, toilets or people who need to be 'socialised' into responsible riding.

Commercialism and bike rides are not the best of bedfellows ...
