Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
I think it's a pretty cool show...although I wish that Irish bloke would speak clearly so a mere southerner can understand what he says...anyway..Bian Cox is excellent...and it makes a change to watch something educational and fun.

The telescope shop around the corner here will be a happier place at the moment I feel sure!

I have been eagerly anticipating the return of SGL after last year's great run. It boosted interest massively in astronomy and bumped new members signing up on a well-known astronomy forum that I am a member of. A greater awareness of the night sky and also the threat of light pollution can only be a good thing in my eyes. Here's to series 3

It was interesting and good but they all seem to be going down the try to look cool top gear format, with audience gapping on. I think that part didn't work and as for the non funny scouser, apart from that it was great.

Loved it here too, very enjoyable. I wonder if there could be a monthly show?

I do a lot of night cycling ... and have seen several meteors while in the saddle. (I use the bars more than the drops).
My area has big skies and one route i use is 8 miles of total blackout away from the orange fuzz present above towns.

I haven't watched a great deal of SGL, but find it funny when that Irish bloke (the one who's lived in England for years and has an English missus..) loves playing the idiot who purports to know little about astronomical matters. Has he mentioned he has a joint honours in maths and theoretical physics?

Most of the management at my works are fools trying to act clever, which is easy to spot.
On the other hand a clever man can act the fool day in day out and nobody would know.

Dara is there to represent 'the common man' - the Beeb finds it impossible to put on serious programmes without a token comic/presenter/singer/model as a stooge. That is patronising and unnecessary, because the ordinary viewer has always been able to follow complex subjects if they are well presented.

So Dara is obliged to appear as ill-informed on science matters as most of the Beeb's commissioning staff actually are.

Dara is just putting it into layman's terms to compensate for Brian's camper than camp view of the cosmos... give him a break.

Yep, a bike/telescope hybrid is something I'm considering.

A friend of mine lives in a farmhouse in Eye and the skies there are amazing. She's right out in the sticks with no neighbours and I love sitting in her garden in the darkness with a g&t and a pair of binoculars.

that was the "back to earth" programme on after the real SGL . a bit like the half hour after springwatch/autumnwatch where they involve the public.

Shame it's only on for three nights as it has been a very informative programme. I remember a few years back spending a week in the Scottish Highlands and with no major towns close, how much clearer the night sky was.

Just a thought, I wonder if you could coat a bike in that Aerogel stuff they had on the second night, wouldn't need to wipe the bike down after a wet ride.
