It's peeing it down, but I still went out in it for an hour in it.

I wore:
Aldi Crane Waterproof Trousers (not overtrousers!) cost just about £15 - had them two years, do the job.
Decathlon BTWIN Overshoes £9.99, on 2nd pair, tend to wear on back and front, zips fail after a while, still usable.
Aldi Waterproof Light Jacket £9.99, new purchase, folds into a pocket. Gets very hot and damp inside but you don't get wet from the rain.
I have full mudguards, this helps keep the water of your backside.

I would love to buy more expensive kit, and the trousers will be the first to change.

If I did not have the cheap kit, I would not have gone out.

Depends if you are just meanandering along or gunning it, I find I just sweat in anything waterproof. Bearing in mind my experiences do not involve using expensive fabric material jackets etc. When its wet I now don`t even bother with full water proofs on the commute, I have a gillet to keep out the wind but long sleeve jersey and/or base layer. Works for me, yes I get wet but no different than sweat.

Gunning it, well 16mph average anyway, which is about it for me (with gradients) The water inside the jacket was equal to the water outside, pretty gross really.

I'm the same, I run a Muddyfox waterproof jacket, and arrived to work knowing how cook in the bag food feels.
Couldn't rip it off fast enough, so first upgrade will be a decent cycle jacket.

As for trousers, I'm looking at bibs and stuff, and yet to find anything that suits all year riding. But we'll see.

Great shout for the overshoes though, was just about to start looking for some too, as ruined my Tenn ones using them on trainers (plus they're not entirely waterproof).

Not today though , absolute torrential rain that leaked through everything and i was wringing my gloves out by squeezing my hands and having to wipe rain that had collected on the buff and running into my eyes.
One soggy and cold commute , i get in and no one pays the slightest notice as a drip all over the house as they are used to my bedraggled look .

Yeah, just get wet. Don't fight it. You'll be on the way home for half the ride anyway.

Get some nice gloves and something to keep your feet a bit drier.
