So I've been doing my 5 mile commute for 12 weeks now on my MTB. It's downhill on the way there and, surprisingly, uphill on the way back.

My weekly average speed there has gone up from 13.8mph in the first week to 17.75mph last week. Today I did it in 18.5mph average a PB

My weekly average on the way back has gone from 10.9mph to 12.9mph.

I'm well chuffed and I must have lost at least half a stone without trying. The commute is now my favourite part of the working day

Well done and congrats.
In my experience you will soon forget that you are a cycle commuter, it's just how you get to work, ignore the distance and time it takes and just enjoy it.

+1 for the above. I now see it as a massive inconvenience if I am not able to commute by bike. Thankfully, this is only on the very rare occasion!!

Well done, if you get a few longer rides in as well you will find your average increases even faster...

Excellent. Do be warned though it is as easy to slip out of the habit as it is to get into it. I sometimes have to take the car to work for 10-11 days on the trot. By the end of it i find it an effort to get back on the bike but dont regret it when i do.
