Excuse my obvious ignorance. I'm looking to buy a shorter stem for my bike (specialised Secteur Sport), basically I've no idea what way to measure it. From the back of the post to the front of the clamp is 150mm in total, should the measurements be taken from the front of the post to the back end of the clamp??

I'm thinking http://www.evanscycl...c008422#reviews the 75 possibly?

You measure from the centre to the centre.
What size is your bike?
A 56 is 100mm, 58 is 110mm, 61 is a 120mm

10mm can/will make a big difference.

if you are going down from 110mm I'd not go less than 90mm unless you can't even reach the bars at the moment - in which case the bike is too big anyway!

Or, unless you have a very short body in relation to your overal height or your arms are very short for some reason. what I'm trying to say is, it's impossible for anyone to just guess what size stem you need. Just be cautious that each 10mm you go shorter will make quite a big difference.

I'm 6ft 2", the bike should feel better than it does, maybe it's the relaxed geometry, it feels to me that i'm stretching too much, ideally i'd prefer to move the seat forward, obv cant so this seems logical to me. Maybe it's not?
