Love him to bits. Really nice chap.

I thought (when he was much younger and I was living in Australia) that he was waiting to be the age he is now, and become (to paraphrase Quentin Crisp), England's stately homo. So I guess he's happy.

What really annoys me is when he's described (usually by the Guardian) as a polymath. Being a comedian that is familiar with Apple products does not make you a polymath.

Edit 1: (Wikipedia's examples of polymaths includes Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Hildegard von Bingen,Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Galileo Galilei, Benjamin Franklin, Rabindranath Tagore,Paolo Sarpi,[2]Nicolaus Copernicus, Francis Bacon, Walter Russell, Thomas Browne,Jose Rizal, Michael Servetus,[3]Ibn Khaldun, Ibn al-Haytham,[4]Avicenna, and Omar Khayyám.[5] No mention of Stephen Fry)

Edit 2: "National treasure" </shudder>

I like him and he has raised the public awareness of mental health issues.

He can be quite funny, his first book was OK although the next one wasn't and I didn't read anymore after that. Not sure about the real work thing, could you imagine him stacking shelves or digging a ditch, no, he's better off pouncing around the place being all lovey and that. National Treasture? Horrible saying usually applied to nobbers like Jules Netherlands or that overacting old trout Judie Dench.

Can't stand the geezer.

He's smug, patronising and sleazy, IMO.

It must be the Norwich connection.
