Morning all - its still windy out there, I was having a job keeping upright, let alone move foward! Still on the flip side think of all the additional endurance training we are getting as a result of it

The only thing I can never understand is this: How come the wind is ALWAYS against you no matter which direction you cycle in.

MTFU

At least its dry and warm ;)

This wind does seem to be sticking around a bit...

My east-west commute means I usually get a following wind that helps me downhill to work and a nasty headwind in my face uphill all the way home at the end of the day. Today it fair blew me along - and I just know that the homeward leg is going to be one huge slog.

Not quite so dry up in Manchester - was trying to rain this morning again.

River Mersey is very full, and one of the Schools in Parrs wood now has a lake instead of football pitches.

It's the law in this country for cyclists, did you not know that!?!? If one has a headwind one must have a balancing headwind when on one's return journey, even if one has changed one's direction of travel by exactly 180 degrees  .
My ride in this morning took 51 minutes, average speed about 13.9mph. Going home tonight, I'm expecting a sub 35 minute run with over 20mph average, swings & roundabouts

Morning all,

Was seemingly doing okay with the wind this morning, until I got a puncture near Battersea.

My own fault and knew I was in for it as I passed by a Shell and had a 50-50 shall i / shan't I fill the tyres to max this morning.

Only decided not to as ordered a new set of Tyres last night and thought would be fine until they arrived.

Hit a pot hole shortly after and the back tyre took quite a clang.....knew what was coming.

Flat tyre with snake bite puncture on the tube. My spare also had a puncture which I was unaware of as well, so that and the sodding wind, which blew everything around, generally screwed my morning ride for me.

humbug....

This morning I was freewheeling up hills, using a ridiculously low gear to go downhill and hanging on for dear life in the crosswinds...

... and I've never enjoyed a commute so much

This morning was the first time ever I've had to pedal downhill.

I was actully standing on the pedals at one point DOWNHILL trying to keep moving.

It seems to be getting stronger here at the minute, so tonight should be a laugh..

My ride home takes in Durham Road / Cottenham Park Road near Raynes park. A today little hill where normally can nudge 30mph down it. I'm not getting any hopes up for tonight's trip

I thought I was in for a record low time going to work this morning....

But I moved the wireless computer along the handlebars yesterday, and it only seemed to record a small bit of the trip.

Did get my max speed though, 32.1mph.

Not looking forward to the journey home!

The wind has been an absolute pig here in South Yorkshire. I've been having to use gears I didn't know existed to go downhill! And pedal like buggery to maintain 10 mph downhill...

Ah, the subtle but critical difference between the wind direction and the apparent wind direction.

Get yourself on one of these and learning the difference happens pretty fast.

I've only done about a dozen commutes to my current workplace but the fastest before last Wednesday was 39 minutes. My fastest is now 32 minutes. Not a bad for a 47 year old porkie to cover 10 miles on a 20 year old MTB.

Left home yesterday into the wind, the garmin records my 5 mile splits, going out they were 23mins & 21mins.
Turned for home and they came down to 12.30 & 14mins, with a max of 45.6mph

Similar to me! 47, been doing my 9.5 mile commute for about 6 months on my knobbly-shod MTB. Best time is 38 mins something, bet I would have beaten it this morning.

This has never, ever happened to me before but I swear I had a bit of a tailwind tonight as well. That must be against the cycling laws!
