Local ITV Anglia news broadcast today (yesterday now) said that there were 264 recorded bike thefts in Cambridge during March. However the Sargeant put up by Cambs Police said they are currently receiving 40 reports a day at the moment. They must be going somewhere. That's an awful lot of bikes for students to dump in the Cam.

The piece then went onto bike security buying a decent lock which was poorly researched as they showed two examples of "secure" locks a short cable lock for £9.99 and a Kryptonite Chain lock for £100 which Emma Baker (I think) could hardly hold up with one arm.

Visited Crankarm's stamping ground recently, and remarked to the missus how lax the security precautions were on all the bikes we saw. I never thought people actually bought those cheap cable locks anymore, but obviously the cream of our academic youth, the Cambridge undergraduate, knows best. Anyone with a van and a pair of cheap bolt cutters would have a field day. Having said that, most of the bikes were utter bargain-basement shite that no self-respecting light-fingered scrote would get much for in Brick Lane.
