Hi

I commute in to London everyday from North Herts on a Motorcycle!

No I'm not lost ;-)

I recently had an accident writing off my three month old £8,000 bike as a result of a diesel spill.

So, now I'm on a mission to raise awareness and see if I can get anything done about it.

I would imagine Diesel Spills are just as big a menace to Cyclists as they are to Motorcyclists.

If you would like to help, please sign the following petition on the Number 10 web site...

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/StopDieselSpills/

Many Thanks
Rich

Cheers Guy's I won't be leaving it with just a Petition. There is nothing like sliding down a busy dual carriageway on your butt to motivate you, especially when it's as the result of some brainless d$%k over filling his fuel tank, and the government's inability to resolve this safety issue.

Have slipped on deisel and found my self heading towards a bonnet of a car on a roundabout a year or two ago so I can definately sypathise! Luckily, good driver saw what was happening and stopped.

Welcome to the forum btw (perhaps you could consider posting this in the campaign section of bikeradar, too)

I read £8000 but not motorcycle and thought "Damn that's one expensive ride!" Carbon and Super Record for you sir?

On topic, this is definitely a 2-wheeled problem. Some of my friends have come off on diesel at roundabouts. Was the damage confined to the bike or you too? I can imagine the leathers would have done their job as well.

Apparently, most diesel and oil spills are concentrated at roundabouts, combine that with the sometimes tight bend they have and you've definately got a problem if you're on 2 wheels.

Leathers

It's was on a roundabout and the kit did save us but was damaged and uninsured at over £1,000 each. My brother was on the back.

A couple of cyclists have put in a claim for gear with the motor insurers bearuie (cant spell bew-row LMAO!!) for kit damaged. Perhaps you could look into doing that for your gloves and leathers, etc. ;)
