Worth having a look here if you havent already. They're (the CTC, though you dont need to be a member) asking that people submit stories of things that have happened to them in the hope of raising the profile of what some of us face. It will also build up a picture of problem areas and times and in turn how driving standards change with those factors.

http://www.stop-smidsy.org.uk/

There is a simple little survey on there which I think people should consider filling out.

To increase cycling and make it a valid transport in peoples eyes we need to do our best to help combat this threat from the minority of drivers who see us as nothing more that a hinderance to them.

Done it ;)

Other than the "case studies", is there a way to read people's stories of bad driving?

My most common SMIDSY's are from peds in Central London.

Seems quite common in places. Have had a few pedestrians step out in front of me this last month or so. Nothing bad or dangerous as I was well prepared. Trouble is the bike is pretty silent when I pedal, I see them and stop pedalling the let the hope pro 3 rear hub alert my presence.

Sounds nothing like a SMIDSY to me. Sounds like the driver simply didnt bother stopping until he'd gone right over the poor b***ard. Reading that makes me wonder if it was even deliberate.

A lorry driver faces jail following an accident in which he knocked down and killed a cyclist and then dumped the bicycle to cover it up.

Delivery driver Stubbs, from Oxford, then drove an extra 30 miles on his route to dump Mr Spink's mangled bike in a lay-by on the Ossett bypass.

Mr Spink was seen clinging on to the windscreen wipers of Stubbs's vehicle to try and prevent being dragged under.

Doesn't really sound like an accident to me.

Lost the link (think it was the Yorkshire Post) where it said a witness saw the poor sod clinging to the windscreen wiper bashing the window for a few seconds. He HAD to have know the guy was there, he would have seen his hands and heard him screaming.

Still sounds deliberate, and yet the jury gave a not guilty on the dangerous driving charge. We NEED a vehicular manslaughter charge set up in this country.

Not the answer?

We have plenty of tough laws, it is just getting them applied.

This is a classic case, the lesser charge was accepted by the Jury.

Still back to the OP..

I was chattingto the CTC at the show yesterday the site is at least partialy aimed at getting information, examples and data to allow further campaigning.

One thing my wife suggested is using the postcards and sendingthem to the MD or CE of any company that offends with details of the incident.

Sorry if I was being a wee bit trigger happy, but there have been comments on here where people treat pedestrians in the same way that some car driver treat cyclist.

We all have a responsibility to treat other road users with respect...
