Lies! Everyone knows statistically 100% of cyclists run red lights.
Well I must be the magic odd one out!! LOL. Counted them today, after 5 miles from work I counted 37 sets of lights, after 7 miles I was up to 43 sets, by the time I got home, 17 miles, 44 sets of lights.

Silly commuter racing

Given that name for a reason

I don't see many people on my commute, and with riding a hybrid I am not all that quick, but when someone passes me I do like to try and kick it up to see if I can keep up or perhaps even overtake, but I follow the rules and play safely.

SCR is so much more fun than speeding from one red light to the next red light in a car, you get fitter in the process, the person in front can act as a wind block and give you a tow, and can even help give a mood lift on those days where it is a bit wet, especially when you overtake someone with a lower FCN (I'm currently a 10).

I was passed on the way home yesterday by a roadie. I'd spotted him waiting at lights where I turned right onto his road. Just when I was working out that he'd probably catch me up at the next set of lights he shot past me like I was stationary.

I pushed it a bit to keep up but only got to him as the next lights were red.
"You scalped me good and proper back there!", said I.
He was puffing a bit but had the honesty to smile and say, "I'm regretting it now though..."

I do not race on the roads (obviously, a club TT or hillclimb doesn't count). I think it is perilous to exceed a safe speed on the public highway.

Nonetheless, I have observed the following absolute laws governing the relative speed of cyclists:

1. If someone passes me, he or she is taking it all WAY too seriously and has probably just left home and is only riding a few miles.

2. If I pass anyone (which one day I hope to), they will certainly be on a training ride for the World Hour Record, even if that happens to be the World Hour Record (Women, 80+).

3. In any conditions I have EVER ridden in the bicycles ridden by all other cyclists are much better suited to speed than my own. For example, a toddler's tricycle presents a low-drag frontal area and a rod-braked shopper ridden by an aged widow offers weight advantages on those fast descents. If it's rained in the past fortnight, a Halfords Apollo full-sus MTB offers grip advantages over a lightweight alloy road bike, so will be faster on flowing A-Roads.

All of the above are empirically tested and shown to be right.

Also, you can only scalp me if I agree to race, so to the rider who 'thinks' she got me this morning, it doesn't count and anyway your mum was pushing you and those stabilisers would be banned by the UCI.
