I've got my GT Aggressor XC2 on the Cycle to work scheme as has a fellow co worker, over the last week he's been talking about his Anti Lock forks being perfect for when on the road. What anti lock fork?

Halfords haven't put the part on the top of my forks which locks suspension on or off! They didn't give me a 'manual' or any documentation for the bike! Surely they'll have to fit it if I take it back?

Well as you have not got the control to lock off the suspension you have as you describe "Anti Lock" forks ie cant be locked off!

Did it not occur to you to check the bike over when taking delivery, and also to ask for all for the related paperwork that shoudl be with the bike!

Yes I agree Stupid Halfords but there is no accounting for a Stupid customer either!

To be honest its my first bike. I thought on the left hand side was the 'lock' but this just alters the pressure on the suspension. I asked if there was paperwork, they said no, just a receipt. I rang the customer service line and they said there is.

Back to the shop tomorrow I go.

I have had a couple of good deals from Halfords. What I so is this.

Me, "I'll take that bike please, boxed unbuilt"

Halfords, "no problem, if you have any problems building it just come back and one of our guys will help"

Me, "thanks" and proceeds to checkout.

Everything is in the box and no monkey boys touched it..

To be fair, I doubt Halford have any part in the assembly of the forks and while it should be checked before going out to a customer, I can understand how it would be missed. It's not on the bottom of the forks is it? The adjustment on my MTB is at the base of the forks and not up on the shoulder.

On the other hand, I went in to a bikehut section the other day and asked for a shot of a 10mm allen key. The member of bikehut staff on duty didn't know what this was and I had to show him the allen keys in his tool box. He may well call them hex keys but it made me chuckle.

There's no need to be quite so abusive, Bruce. We all had to start somewhere.

Thanks

It's definately on the top, there's actually 4 people with the same bike from the same shop with it all fitted. I'll see what they say tomorrow, but should help with my road cycling no end I presume?

My wife's hybrid has front sus and I've never heard of a lock for it. And she does almost all cycling on road - admittedly not at great speed. I would guess, you can manage on suspension all the time, unless it's set very 'soft'. Anyway good luck with Halfords ....

... who are not really all that 'stupid'. OK some people have had really bad experiences with their sometimes not over-well-trained staff. The worst was with a children's bike that a colleague bought off the shelf for her child. Luckily she showed it to me and I discovered that the brakes were inoperative. A quick wielding of spanner and allen-key and it was sorted. That's often obligatory with any Halfords offering.

And avoid their brake blocks, and their cheaper tyres! The inner tubes are OK.

It sounds like your bike has the wrong forks on. If they don't lock then you get a dial at the top of one side, which just tightens to adjust the pressure on the spring. If they do lock it's more like a lever, which turns to lock off the spring completely. As far as I'm aware it's either one or the other.
[/quote]

Only thing is the lever is not attached and therefore I can't lock it, just need the pop the lever on then it can be locked. There are groves in the unit to fit the lever, its just getting it!

I have an XC2 as well and the Suntour XCR forks have rebound damping adjuster on the left fork shoulder and also a lockout lever on the right hand shoulder.

Or at least they should have...

So I went in before work, "I'm very sorry, I'll order it in for you and ring you when its here. Thanks"

Didn't even ask my name or number, had to tell it them, so don't know if he was throwing me some bulls***.

Is there anywhere I could get one from online without going to GT direct?

Just ring them up next week and ask if they have received it yet...if they haven't keep pestering them. I would expect that it would be an 'order in' part from pretty much anywhere tbh and anyway, you certainly shouldn't have to pay for it.

In the meantime wind up the rebound to max for a firmer ride with less 'bounce'.
