I allowed myself to be sucked into some commuter racing this morning.
Cruising along a nice dual carriageway when some guy on a nice looking far superior Felt bike and a pair of white road shoes slowly comes along side, who was on the shared path not the road. I'd seen him earlier about 1.5kms at a traffic light controlled RAB.
I'm thinking to myself, I'm on the heavy hybrid, full mudguards/mudflaps and panniers, riding up slight drag into a head wind not much point trying when I'm giving the other rider such a big advantage.
I look back a my speedo and realise I have speeded up, so I think I just maintain this faster cruise pace and see what happens.
The guy uses a junction to try and grab my back wheel but misses, so I very slowly ease away until stopped by a pedestrian crossing, the other rider stops right behind me. As we pull away he again tries for my rear wheel and again fails, he obviously running out of steam as I start to pull away at a faster rate, finally we go our separate ways.
It's the first decent commuter race I have had as it was over a distance of about 4km with not much getting in the way and virtually no traffic, shame I wasn't on the road bike would have been an equal contest then.
