Had a beauty tonight - the air was so still that the contrails from many aircraft were still straight and not too fluffy and as the sun went down it looked fantastic. Very, very memorable.
I've lost my camera and even if I hadn't, I wouldn't have had it with me so no pics.

Seen any memorable ones?

Got any photo's?

My most memorable one was seen from a train crossing the Pyrenees on the way to France from Spain. We were travelling beside a beautiful lake that had the mountains behind it and the sun had just set, throwing up massive red rays and lighting up the dark clouds above, the whole thing perfectly reflected in the utterly still lake. To say it was beautiful does it a great injustice...everyone in the train, including the ones jabbering into the mobiles just stopped what they were doing, stopped speaking (aside from a few "jesus" and "magnifique"s) and just stared. Probably the best sunset I'll ever see.

Damn - we had some cloud appear here just before sunset so missed it. We do get some crackers though here in East Anglia with more sky than you can shake a stick at. One particularly spectacular one was a year or so ago. The sun dipped below the cloud just before it set, and it looked as if the whole sky was on fire. I took a couple of pics from my garden (which I'll try to attach) but they really don't do it justice.

Mine was in Iceland. It was a combined Sunset and Sunrise. All the water in the valley turned Golden as did the sky. They contrasted well with the darkish land. The sun went down to the horizon, dipped in a bit*, and then came up again. Everything was still (not usually the case in Iceland). And it lasted and lasted and lasted. My photos predate digital and are archived somewhere in a slide box so can't share I'm afraid. But I shall never ever forget that one.

*We were up on a hill as Icelend is mostly South of the Arctic Circle.

The last two memorable ones was after a great day with Longers and co at the velodrome and cycling back to Sheffield, sunset on the top of the Snake pass as I looked back into glossop. The other one was last year where I went out for a meal at my favourite pub in derbyshire which has a clear line of sight to the hills on the horizon, when it's a clear day. It was September and the sun went down whilst I was eating, could easily watch the whole lot as it trickled over the horizon.

I remember that night, it was a gorgeous evening. I remember being jealous of you having to ride home but also glad I didn't have to. Chapeau again!

There is/was a short eared owl that quartered the moor towards Kinder just before sunset and I'd like to see if it's still doing the rounds. But have been saying that for four years since I last checked.

Nice photo's, keep 'em coming please!
