Last Saturday was lovely sunny day up here and the sound of sirens were frequently heard, especially late afternoon. Today, it's lovely and sunny again and there's been near constant sirens for the last hour or so. It's not the first year I've noticed a definite increase in sirens when the sun shines, so what the heck is going on? Too much booze and brawls break out? Barbecues blowing up in peoples' faces? Drivers dazzled by the sunlight? Spontaneous combustion of discarded debris? People overcome by heat and passing out?

The drivers are just trying to get back to base to knock off sharpish, who wants overtime on a (rare) sunny day.

I spent 19 years in the Police, and from experience I can confirm that it IS much busier when the weather is good. There are probably many factors involved, but what we found in Scotland was that people just tend to congregate more when the weather is nice. Then they start to get bored and with the teenagers it leads to mischief which quickly becomes disorder.
We always used to pray for rain, and lots of it, on Friday and Saturday nights when the pubs and clubs spilled. The streets would clear within half an hour, whereas if it was dry they would hang about for hours, literally. That is when the violence and mayhem starts....

I live near a main road not far from the hospital. Every sunny weekend from March to October the sirens start about half an hour to an hour after the first motorcycle gang/club has roared past.

I wouldn't say it involves the police but anti social behaviour increases around here on those rare warm sunny days! The idiots buy boxes of cheap beer from the supermarket and sit on their fronts with loud music blasting out. It's usually the lazy sods who don't work, as the ones who do have better things to do with their leisure time.
