How do you guys and gals deal with commuting to work but no showers.

Mine is only about 6 miles from home to Central London and I see people in all the kit going fast hence I presume that they have somewhere to change but I also see people in their suits, dresses, anoraks etc so how do they deal with the sweat problem?

Cheers.

Until recently, we didn't have showers at work and I have a 10 mile commute.

The secret, as far as I can tell, is to cycle slower. I say that with the understanding that I am one of those lucky few that doesn't sweat much anyway. However I found that if I didn't press myself to get up the next hill in record time, or watch my average speed like a hawk, I could get to work sweat free... bar the occasional Glasgow shower.

I keep some fragrance free baby wipes at work with a towel, flannel, body spray/deodorant, face wipes (cleanse, tone moisturise and eye makeup remover) and hair product. Pop into the disabled loos and have a quick wash down before anyone else gets in. job done.

The magic of Baby Wipes.... Johnsons are best..don't do the 'aloha vera' ones - too much creme in them....originals are great....... keep a small supply in a bag in the rucksack for other sites.....I arrive as fresh as a baby.....

I sweat buckets..that's life.... riding slow is a no go...........

Another useful object to aid the post-ride cool down to be ultra-fast is to take one of those flexible icepacks with you - Kept in freezer overnight - wrap up in cloth so it retains its coldness - use on brow, back of neck to aid a swift cool down on reaching work.

When I do ride into work...I do 5mls and manage to just about avoid a shower of sweating episode...the secret is to wear no much...as you can get away with the REAL prob. is the outside attack of cold is usually chilly/icy? compared to the inside...difficult to get right BUT i feel the body likes having a wet area around the back as say you've 2 laters on eg a t-shirt then a cycling long-sleeve top the t-shirt may get damp etc..so its a progression to the dry of the ls top...

Very rarely do I NOT perspire/sweat on the bike...even if I just goto a friends a ml or 2 away...its healthy anyhow the only prb like you say is the bloody 'cleaning up' of it....

After 9 miles I'm dripping sweat, so I take 20 minutes to catch up with e-mail and anything else that's come through overnight. Once I've cooled down, then it's baby wipes in the disabled toilet. It helps to get in early so there are not too many people about while I'm hanging about in cycling gear and the merino wool base layer helps to maintain the fragrance.

i do 7 miles minimum each way, and go all out, so do get bit sweaty. we dont have a shower at work, so i tend to strip off and evaporate naturally. a wipe down with good ol' baby wipes -where needed -squirt of deoderant, then change into clean work gear. hang up damp clothes until dry for commute home. jobs a good 'un

I get SO cold on my journey that I really think i couldn't do it without a shower at the end as I have to wrap up in such warm clothing to head out. I cycle 18 miles so by the time I've done a mile or two I start to really warm up and "glow" quite considerably!

My commute is from the station to work which is only a mile and 3/4 but I still manage to get sweaty! I blame my rucksack. OK that and the fact that I'm just unfit.

We also have no showers at work. I keep a towel, soap and deodorant in work and have a wash in the sink. Although everyone here says it's daft when people do this, I do wear lycra (cycle shorts/running top under hi-vis jacket) for this short distance as it does help to wick away the sweat and I then don't have to sit in my manky clothes all day.

I used to shower up until Feb this year. The problem was you shower then 20 mins later you just start sweating again.

Now all I do is use wet wipes, Right Guard and I just wash my hair and face in the wash basin.

This has done me through the "summer".

Then when I get home at night i jump in the shower.
