I've recently started using the Readly app for reading magazines on my phone, but I find the screen a bit small and I'm easily distracted by notifications etc.

I'm thinking of buying a really cheap used tablet from CEX - there are 8 year old Samsung etc tablets going for about £30.

If I bought one of these and removed everything except the Readly app, would it work ok as a sort of electronic magazine? Would it be a security risk being logged into Google on it if it is too old for security updates, even if I literally only had Readly on it?

I used to be quite tech savvy, but am starting to feel a bit left behind . . .

Depending on model and your willingness to do stuff, you could potentially upgrade the OS beyond spec using LineageOS. This also allows you to keep Google involvement at a reduced level. But I've not done such things for a while and am uncertain of the current situation.

Thanks - might be worth looking into. 👍
