You could start by taking the change out of your pocket.

If you want to save weight where you gain the most, start with the wheels.
+1.
You could drop 1.7 kg off fairly easy....if you have the £££££. I'll assume a set of Lightweight wheels, Tune cranks, etc, are out of your budget though. Better to be realistic, decide how much you are willing and able to spend, and go shopping accordingly. Wheels definitely the first thing to look at, also tyres and tubes. Losing rotating weight is going to make the most difference. I'd suggest checking out the weightweenies forums for ideas.

My 7 year old 52cm Madone 5.2SL has a triple chainset, and Ultegra components including carbon fibre ultegra pedals and selle italia SLR team edition saddle. It has a DuraAce 7900 C24-SL wheelset which is very light! It weighs 7.75kg, including pedals. I guess it could lose more weight by swapping out the bontrager stem and bars. Sadly, once I'm aboard, the whole thing weighs in at just over 83Kg. And that's without any change in my pocket..............

Wheels / tubes / tyres.
Planet X super light CNC brakes.
Extra light headset.
Speedplay pedals.
Lighter chain if you're running Shimano.

If you're serious strip the bike and weigh EVERY component, then start trawling the net. Even things like seatpost clamps and aluminium bottle cage bolts save a few grams. Not much individually, but they add up.

My Ti framed bike comes in at <8kg and there's a couple of (relatively) heavy components on it. I've also tried to draw a line with cost!

And yes, it would be much easier and cheaper to shed a few kg from my stomach. But hey, it's fun:thumbsup:

change to SRAM, weigh less then their Shimano counterparts.
Or full carbon groupset if you have the dosh.

Not here offten enough to argue
I would say a good set of enve, hed , zipp wheels with good lightweight race tyres and tubes could save you around a kilo.

So thats 7.7kgs

Swap out the ultegra chainset and get a decent lightweight carbon jobby, could save you around 300 grammes

So thats 7.4kg

The two huge chips one on each shoulder could be taking from your body weight, add to that the weight of your over inflated ego and you may get a half decent human and bike

Jobs a good un.......

Oh the wheels, tyres, crankset will cost you between 2/3k

The other bits well its upto you how you lose those
