Been looking for a decent browser for my iPad and stumbled upon Maxthon. It's Chinese which is no concern in itself (I don't think that per head of population China has more internet baddies than any other country), it's just it seems good and is free. I then read a review of UC browser which is also free where the user got scammed for £00s on their Skype and Paypal accounts.

So any good or bad stories about Maxthon?

I've never heard of Maxthon but make sure you get it from the official site. I downloaded Firefox from a third party site (it was first in a Google search) and got a whole load of spyware with it. Even uninstalling Firefox didn't get rid of it.

Downloaded it from the App Store. In all my time with Android, Apple fans pointed to the integrity of the App Store as a plus so here's hoping.

Chrome on a tablet I find just has too much "going on". I like it on the PC and use it all the time but on a tablet, it just seems too busy.

Safari I used to like particularly the most visited feature. Now I just keep finding bugs for example I couldn't reply to this post in Safari.

Firefox I've not used since it decided not to give an "Exit" option on Android. Apple doesn't give an exit option on anything so may be time to try it again

I don't use Safari on any of my Apple products, I use Chrome across them all.

Not sure what you mean about chrome being busy. If you've not used it for a while, it may be worth another try. On my iPad it is a full screen browser, unless you scroll up to reveal the menu bar.

I really don't like going outside the browser from mainstream companies especially if used for anything to do with finances. While Google may record what you browse, they're unlikely to rinse your bank account.

I use Free Adblock Browser on android. It's just like Chrome minus the adverts. Though any financial transactions are done on the laptop which has Trusteer installed on Chrome. Not that I'm paranoid or anything:smile:

Right. I bit the bullet and installed it. So far no one has raised my bank account and the browser itself is very quick

Im pretty much giving up on firefox , i keep having to refresh it to make it work, even with no add ons it keeps blocking web page functionality , i could not even see a reply box on CC yesterday let alone images/ videos .
The only thing on chrome i miss is the menu bar and the ability to make it delete all browser history on exit .

With chrome, right click on the icon you use to start it. Go to Properties.

Go to Shortcut tab

In the target, go to the end and add a space then put -incognito

so it should be
somethingsomething\chrome.exe -incognito

This will cause Chrome to load up in incognito mode where it won't remember any history.

I've used Maxthon for a while on my pc as a back up browser if Chrome or IE are misbehaving. I actually like it, it's simple, quick and uncluttered.

I personally think that Safari is far superior to any browser that can be installed on any i device. Mercury browser was good also.

Cheers , with a few add ons i have enough functionality now to make it ok .

I looked at maxthon browser and to me it looks the same as chrome with a few whistles.

I thought about Mercury. Safari is just too slow to load web pages so on the iPad it seems to have allowed me to set Chrome as the default but even that is slower than Maxthon
