thats me. never had a mobile phone, pc's from the ark and i have to get the kids to operate the sky digital record box thing but things need to change, after a recent mechanical problem in the wilderness a mobile would have saved so much grief and i also fancy getting into strava
so whats my options
a fancy phone that does it all
b very cheap phone and garmin/ other gps thingy
c something else

b) A fancy phone will cost you more in data and contract than getting a cheap payg phone for emergencies and a garmin for all the fun. I think the 200 does Strava, one in the classifieds for a decent price I think or Wiggle have some refurbs

an aid to training would be more important to me(speed cadence HRM and down loading data) a gps less so as i know where im going

I would struggle to recommend the latest iterations over the older ones, even as a user of one of the new devices.

A Bryton GPS device is another option, I have one and think it does what it needs to very well. Got it at a discount also which helps.

I foresee a very steep learning curve. About 33%
